Dirk Schouten, Paul Meijer and Benjamin Paque fight for the overall title
The title battle in PRO-AM, for Rookies and for teams is still open
Zonhoven, October 9, 2024 – The final battle for the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux title is set to unfold this weekend at Circuit Zolder, where three top drivers – Dirk Schouten, Paul Meijer, and Benjamin Paque – will compete for the overall championship. With the title fights in the PRO-AM, Rookie, and team categories still open, the stage is set for a high-stakes showdown.
After an exhilarating season that saw six different winners across ten races, Dutchman Dirk Schouten (Q1 Trackracing) leads the standings with 159.5 points, having claimed three victories. His compatriot Paul Meijer (Hans Weijs Motorsport), who has stood atop the podium once this season, trails with 138 points, while Belgian talent Benjamin Paque (D’Ieteren Luxury Performance) remains in contention with 125 points. With 51 points still up for grabs at Zolder—25 points for each of the two race wins and an additional point for pole position –everything is still to play for.
While Paque eyes the top two spots, the competition for second and third is fierce. Sacha Norden (JW Raceservice), who won the last race, sits fourth with 108 points, just 17 points behind Paque. The pack chasing Norden includes Sam Jongejan (Team RaceArt, 99.5), Kobe Pauwels (D’Ieteren Luxury Performance, 98.5), Niels Langeveld (Q1 Trackracing, 98), and rally driver Kalle Rovanperä (RedAnt Racing, 92.5), who will make his first appearance on a Belgian circuit, 24 years after his father, Harri Rovanperä, raced in the 24 Hours of Zolder.
Battles in every class
The Rookie category is led by Kobe Pauwels, who has a 27.5-point lead over Sam Jongejan, though the competition remains fierce for the bronze. In the PRO-AM class, Jani Käkelä (39 Racing) and Jules Grouwels (Team RaceArt) are locked in a duel for the title, while Ziad Geris (PG Motorsport) and Maik Rosenberg (Team GP Elite) fight for third.
In the team championship, Q1 Trackracing leads, with D’Ieteren Luxury Performance close behind. The latter team will be bolstered by Glenn Van Parijs, the 2023 vice-champion, who steps in for the injured Robin Knutsson.
Additional highlights include guest appearances by Colin Bönighausen (Bas Koeten Racing) and Belgian driver Steve Meurrens, making his debut with MM Racing.
The final weekend kicks off with free practice sessions on Friday, followed by Saturday’s qualifying at 11:10. The two 30-minute races are scheduled for Saturday at 16:00 and Sunday at 12:25.
