Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux heads to Northern Netherlands for the fourth Round

  • JACK’s Racing Day welcomes the fastest brand cup in the Benelux

  • Intense title fight continues

Zonhoven, 30 July 2024. The Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux teams and drivers won’t be taking a summer break just yet. From 2 to 4 August, the fastest brand cup in the Benelux will be featured at the annual motorsport festival in the north of the Netherlands, JACK’s Racing Day, held at the famous Assen circuit. The seventh and eighth races of the season will take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August in front of packed grandstands. The competitors of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux will continue their title battles at Assen, joined by some fast Dutch guest drivers. Expect plenty of excitement!

Assen is a permanent fixture on our calendar with JACK’s Racing Day,” says Series Manager Olivier Aerts, anticipating the fourth of six meetings this season. “This event is different from, for example, the FIA WEC, the DTM, or the ELMS. It’s a celebration of motorsports, featuring F1 demos, races with GTs and touring cars, as well as speed races for motorcycles and even karting with the lightning-fast Superkarts. The Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux remains a highlight of this program, with races on Saturday at 14:56 and Sunday at 12:38. The stands will be full, and the atmosphere will be fantastic!

The participant list includes four guest drivers, featuring three fast Dutchmen. Larry ten Voorde (JW Raceservice), a two-time Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup champion, will be a prominent presence. Coming straight from the Belgian round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Spa-Francorchamps, where he won twice last year, he’s set to compete in Assen. Another contender, Wouter Boerekamps (PG Motorsport), who impressed last year, aims to excel again this year. Hans Weijs Jr. (Hans Weijs Motorsport), competing in the PRO-AM class, won both races of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux in Assen earlier this July. Lastly, fast German rookie Colin Jamie Bönighausen (Bas Koeten Racing) will join as a guest driver. Note that guest drivers do not score points.

Title fight Intensifies

While no champions will be crowned after the races in Assen, the competition remains fierce as the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux heads to the Red Bull Ring in September and Circuit Zolder in early October. Drivers fighting for the title can’t afford any mistakes in the Netherlands.

In the Overall Championship, Hans Weijs Motorsport driver Paul Meijer leads with 100 points, twelve and thirteen points ahead of Dirk Schouten (Q1-Trackracing) and Benjamin Paque (D’IETEREN LUXURY PERFORMANCE) respectively. Robin Knutsson (NGT Racing) is fourth with 77 points, making it likely the champion will emerge from this quartet.

The Rookies and PRO-AM classes are also witnessing close duels. Kobe Pauwels (D’Ieteren Luxury Performance) and Sam Jongejan (Team RaceArt) are leading the young contenders, with Alexander Reimann (EST1 Racing) in third position, followed by Jurriaan de Back (JW Raceservice) and Valters Zviedris (Q1-Trackracing).

In the PRO-AM class, Jani Käkelä (39 Racing) and Jules Grouwels (Team RaceArt) are the primary title contenders. The team battle is equally thrilling, with D’ieteren Luxury Performance and Q1-Trackracing separated by just one point.
