Larry ten Voorde crowned King of Assen again

  • Larry ten Voorde Triumphs in Both Races of the Benelux's Fastest Brand Cup

  • Dirk Schouten Regains Lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux

Assen, 5 August 2024 - What a weekend it was! The seventh and eighth races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season, part of the popular Jack's Racing Day event at the TT Circuit Assen, showcased thrilling motorsport action. Guest driver Larry ten Voorde (JW Raceservice) stole the show by winning both races, with his second victory particularly applauded by the enthusiastic crowd. Meanwhile, Dirk Schouten (Q1 Trackracing) reclaimed his lead in the championship standings of the fastest brand cup in the Benelux. The next races are scheduled for September 13-15 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, marking the penultimate meeting of the season.

In a somewhat surprising turn, Sam Jongejan (Team RaceArt), currently second in the Rookie standings, secured the Tag Heuer Pole Position Award for the first race of the weekend. Larry ten Voorde, who had several lap times canceled earlier in the session, started next to him on the front row. On Sunday, Paul Meijer (Hans Weijs Motorsport) started in first place, followed by Jongejan and Dirk Schouten. In the Pro-Am category, both pole positions were claimed by Hans Weijs Jr. (Hans Weijs Motorsport).

The first race of the weekend saw a predictable outcome for Larry ten Voorde, the current leader in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. He won the race with flawless speed, finishing ahead of Sam Jongejan and another guest driver, Wouter Boerekamps (PG Motorsport).

This feels like a victory,” beamed Sam Jongejan, who was the best rookie on the starting grid and finished second in the race. “Competing against Larry is no disgrace, and I drove the perfect race. This gives me hope for the future in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux.

Dirk Schouten finished fourth but earned points for second place since guest drivers ten Voorde and Boerekamps were ineligible for points. Paul Meijer finished sixth, and Benjamin Paque (D’Ieteren Luxury Performance) eighth, helping Schouten in the points standings.

In the Rookies category, Jongejan claimed victory, followed by Domas Raudonis (Team GP Elite) and Kobe Pauwels (D’Ieteren Luxury Performance). The PRO-AM category saw Hans Weijs Jr. triumph over Ziad Geris (PG Motorsport) and Maik Rosenberg (Team GP Elite).

Larry’s spectacular Sunday performance

The weekend's highlight came on Sunday when Larry ten Voorde started from eighteenth place and quickly moved up to tenth after the first lap. He then fought his way to the lead, captivating the audience and finishing as the winner.

I really enjoyed it myself,” said ten Voorde of JW Raceservice. “It certainly wasn’t easy, and I had to fight for every spot. This is definitely a victory that I will remember!

With a second-place finish, Dirk Schouten regained the championship lead, moving ahead of Paul Meijer, who had arrived in Assen as the leader.

I am incredibly happy to regain first place and head to Austria as the leader,” said Schouten. Niels Langeveld (Q1 Trackracing) took third place on Sunday, with Kobe Pauwels as the fastest Rookie, ensuring Pauwels remained the leader in the Rookie points standings. Sam Jongejan and Colin Jamie Böninghausen (Bas Koeten Racing) joined him on the Rookie podium. In the PRO-AM category, Jules Grouwels (Team RaceArt) and Jani Käkelä (39 Racing) took gold and silver, with Käkelä maintaining his championship lead. Hans Weijs Jr. finished third in PRO-AM on Sunday.

Finally, the ‘Michelin Star of the Weekend’ was awarded to Richard Jongejan, Sam Jongejan’s father, for his unwavering commitment to his son’s career.

See you at the Austrian Red Bull Ring in mid-September!
